People far and wide, liberal and conservative, are wanting to buy their guns before Obama takes office. Since he is an unabashed gun banner, that doesn't come as much of a surprise.

My question is whether there is a need to be scared. In honesty, I doubt that a gun ban would top the "to do" list of Obama. Congress may attempt to push something through, but I don't know that the Republicans in the Senate would let the bill pass. More importantly, on the heels of Heller I am doubtful that the Supreme Court would stand for a broad ban of any sort. It is possible that the AWB of 1994 could rise again, maybe even one slightly more aggressive. But to believe that an entire class of weapons would be banned, or anything of that nature is probably over reaching.

For what it is worth, I do have my eyes open for a budget 1911. If regular capacity magazines are banned in favor of a 10 round limit I'll still believe that more is better. If I'm not allowed to have more bullets I'll simply have more bullet for those that I am allowed to carry. If anyone has any experience with a RIA compact leave a comment and let me know. I had a RIA tactical model at one point but let it move on. The thing just didn't work for me, though it appears to have been great for the other three people that have owned it.

You Tube

First, I'm a huge football fan. I prefer college sports in general, but I usually can be found watching any football that I can find, from high school on up. So it is somewhat shocking that I'm not interested in any of the NFL games that are on right now. But, since that is the case, I've been watching videos on youtube and have had a great time doing so.

If you have the chance, check a few of the gun video authors out. I highly recommend Limalife and the NRA Videos. Have fun, and remember that Tuesday you decide our future. So, here is what is likely to be on my person should you ever meet me.

1. Sig P228
2. Spare magazine
3. Spyderco folding knife
4. Cell phone (BlackBerry)
5. Keys
6. Leatherman multi-tool
7. Wallet

Pretty basic. At times there will also be a Smith and Wesson 640 in a pocket or on my ankle. People seem to think I carry a lot of stuff, but in reality it is very little. Looking at me, you'd never guess that I was carrying a firearm, much less the rest of the gear I have on me. In part, I thank Nate at Ugly Bald Guy Holsters for his great work. (I would link, but his site appears to be down for some reason... it can usually be found at www.ubgholsters.com) Other than that, it is just knowing how to dress and making a few concessions. Dress around your equipment and you can carry just about anything.

Why am I here?

I am setting this blog up for one simple reason. I'm worried. America appears ready to elect a rabid anti-gunner to the highest office in the land. Mr. Obama has tried to dodge the issue, but it is clear he is no friend to gun ownwers. He has gone so far as to say that he believes the right to carry should be banned. That means that I, and those like me, would lose our right to carry firearms in public. Simply put, that is unacceptable.

So, I am here to track what happens. Even if McCain pulls out a miracle and wins the election, the Congress will be firmly in the hands of the Democrats and he has been a part of some horrible ideas in the past (campaign finance reform anyone?), and there is no reason to believe he would be on our side in the future.

A little background about me:
I'm a veteran, son of a police officer (my mom), and have been shooting my entire life. It is unthinkable that you would encounter me at a time I wasn't armed where legally allowed to carry a firearm. Despite the fact that I've rarely been more than a few feet from a firearm, I've never accidentally shot anyone. My gun has never jumped from my holster and shot someone. The assault rifle in the closet has never jumped out and shot anyone. However, I have been in more than one situation where death or serious bodily harm may have been my fate if I were not armed. It is a right I take seriously.
